There were a few smiles seen on the street today. The sun was out and the rains have given Guatemala a respite. Some houses have washed away but not people's spirits.
In Antigua, an impromptu benefit event was staged on upper 5th Avenue. At or around 11:00, the show began.
Jugglers, balloon artists and performers on unicycles amused the crowd. Antigua's only mime was there, laughing behind the scenes at the antics of his fellow troupers. It has been a week of bad news, heartbreak and suffering. Some people are still digging out and some will never be found.
For a few moments, an hour or so, sitting on the curb and watching children laugh was a good place to be. The donation jar went around once and it came back half full. Everyone knows someone whose life has been touched. The list of items needed was short: towels, clothes, medicine and tools. Shovels to rebuild the hovels. Gautemala grieves but not on Sunday.
